Injured truck driver caught moonlighting for Uber, Lyft

If you are too injured to drive a truck, you shouldn’t be able to drive for a ridesharing service, or push a lawnmower.
That’s the public service announcement in Iowa, where state officials said a truck driver from Waterloo illegally collected more than $10,000 in workers compensation benefits by claiming he was injured while he was allegedly driving for ride-sharing services and mowing lawns, according to an article Monday in the Finger Lake Times.
Joshua Hernandes, who was arraigned Wednesday, is charged with a felony count of third-degree grand larceny. He was allegedly injured on the job in May 2019, but failed to report for medical examinations, among other allegations that tipped investigators, according to the article.
In addition to picking up workers compensation benefits and Uber and Lyft riders throughout 2019, Mr. Hernandes also picked up additional felony charges in December: first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, third-degree welfare fraud, third-degree grand larceny, and misuse of food stamps.
