Insured losses due to wind from Winter Storm Eberhard will range between €900 million and €1.5 billion ($1.02 billion and $1.70 billion), according to AIR Worldwide.
The majority of insured losses from the storm — which first struck the U.K., the Netherlands, and Belgium on March 9 and 10, then began impacting Germany before heading farther east and affecting Austria, the Czech Republic and Poland — are expected in Germany, the Boston-based catastrophe risk modeling firm said in a statement on Thursday. The winter storm felled trees and caused power outages and travel disruption.
Eberhard followed on the heels of Freya/Bennet, which affected Wales and England on March 3, bringing strong winds and some flooding, then impacted Germany and parts of France and Denmark through March 5; Laura/Cornelius, which affected the U.K. and Scandinavian countries later the same week; and Dragi, which affected Northern Europe just before Eberhard, according to AIR.
Perils AG has issued a final estimate of the insured property market loss from Cyclone Friederike, also known as David, at €1.672 billion ($1.91 billion).
