BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Car insurance rates have steepest climb in Michigan

Michiganders tired of paying a lot for car insurance might want to cruise to Vermont, where a new study found it has the cheapest insurance compared with Michigan — in its fifth year in the top slot.

The average car insurance premium in Michigan hit $2,239 in 2018, which is $874, or 64%, higher than the national average premium of $1,365, according to an October study by Insure.com that was circulated Tuesday.

Louisiana slotted into the No. 2 spot for the second year in a row with an average premium that is 56% higher than the national average. Florida moved into the No. 3 spot after placing fifth last year, according to the survey results.

Vermont, meanwhile, boasts an average premium of $932, 32% less than the national average. Ohio, Idaho, Virginia and Iowa followed as having the lowest premiums nationwide.
