Car insurance rates have steepest climb in Michigan

Michiganders tired of paying a lot for car insurance might want to cruise to Vermont, where a new study found it has the cheapest insurance compared with Michigan — in its fifth year in the top slot.

The average car insurance premium in Michigan hit $2,239 in 2018, which is $874, or 64%, higher than the national average premium of $1,365, according to an October study by that was circulated Tuesday.
