BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Bumper rental trucks at heart of insurance scam

Two Louisiana men are accused of insurance fraud after renting moving trucks from two separate companies, crashing them into each other, and pretending not to know one another, reports WAFB 9 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

On April 15, Frankie Joe Relan, transported his friend Christopher Blake Webb to a U-Haul truck rental spot in Baton Rouge and gave him $100 to rent a U-Haul truck. Two days later, Mr. Webb met Mr. Relan at a gas station where Mr. Webb, driving the U-Haul truck behind Mr. Relan and his passenger, Harley Marshall, rear-ended his accomplice’s Budget Rental truck, the news station reported.

Once police arrived at the scene, the men acted as if they didn’t know each other, filing insurance claims for injuries and personal property damage, the station reported.

On Oct. 1, the Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud and Auto Theft Unit received a report from the insurer alleging Mr. Webb rented a U-Haul truck for the purpose of staging the crash in order to make an insurance claim, according to the news report.

Messrs. Relan and Marshall were arrested and charged with automobile insurance policies fraud and filing or maintaining false public records.

Mr. Webb is still on the loose, but a warrant for his arrest has been issued.
