BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.
To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.
To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Jacqueline Kosecoff is using what she's learned over her long career as a health insurance company executive to help guide smaller, up-and-coming service providers as they navigate the ever-changing regulations and needs of the health care system.
She's no longer on staff at just one company, having left her role as CEO of Prescription Solutions, a unit of UnitedHealth Group Inc., in 2011 to build her brand as an expert in the field. Today, she wears two hats from her office in Los Angeles: managing partner at Moriah Partners L.L.C. and senior adviser at Warburg Pincus L.L.C. Both are private equity firms invested in companies that provide health services.
Besides that, Ms. Kosecoff has been published numerous times including in The New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Health Association. She serves on 10 boards for public and private companies that oversee and provide medical care and management. She also teaches Medicine and Public Health at UCLA, where she holds a research professorship.
“I've arranged my career in a more portfolio manner,” she said. “At Moriah Partners, we invest in small emerging companies and mentor companies that (we) think can produce something meaningful in health care; at Warburg Pincus, I help evaluate opportunities and mentor companies.”
Why does she do it all? In a word: passion.
“I like to find companies that I believe will produce a better health care result,” Ms. Kosecoff said. “That means reduce the cost of health care without reducing quality and improve quality without increasing costs.”
To her, pioneers in the marketplace fit together like pieces of a puzzle, improving the system for all involved. “There are some enduring companies that are sustainable. I like companies that enhance the lives of the providers and the patients they serve.”
With health care in flux and new regulations leading much of the change, she said it's often more difficult for providers to practice. “Our government is not functioning at the top of their game,” she said. “The challenge is the unknown regulatory environment.”
Another challenge is the aging population. “The longevity of America will require us to think about how we deliver services,” she said. On top of that, the emerging millennial generation has different expectations for medical care, she said.
Several companies she mentors are working on new models that will cater to those diverse populations. Telemedicine, where remote consulting with a top expert in the field, is on the rise as older generations want the best care and a younger, healthier set simply want quicker access to a physician.
Regardless of the approach, the overall goal is to improve the experiencefor all who seek care. “Medicine and receiving health care may not always be a beautiful experience,” she said. “We look for a humane system with respectful, good care that makes (patients) feel valued.”
She said technology will help solve many problems, and she's glad to be on the forefront.
“I've been blessed with a career that has allowed me to see a myriad of (the) myriad aspects of health care,” she said. “My goal is to help health care companies make a difference in health care in the 21st century. That they are going to make care more effective with technology. They are going to make it a nicer experience. If I can help some of these companies achieve their potential, I would have achieved my goal.”
