Statutory employer defense OK for general contractors: Pa. court

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court on Thursday explained that the statutory employer defense for general contractors who have not paid benefits to a subcontractor’s injured employee is not waivable in a decision overturning a Superior Court’s determination that a general contractor qualified for statutory employer immunity.

Global property insurance rates fall 8%

Global property insurance rates declined by 8% in the third quarter of 2025, according to U.S.-based Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc., Artemis reported. Softer reinsurance pricing and increased insurer competition are fueling rate reductions across all regions, with the Pacific recording the steepest drop at 14%. 

Samsung Fire boosts Canopius stake in $580 million deal

U.K. car output plunges after JLR cyberattack

Car production in the U.K. fell to its lowest September level since 1952 after a cyberattack halted Jaguar Land Rover Automotive plc’s operations, according to trade group Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, The Guardian reported.
