Insurer faces nearly $70 million outstanding liability for underpaying workers

An audit by New South Wales Auditor-General found that Australian state-owned insurer Icare deliberately underpaid more than 1,300 workers with deadly dust diseases and it now faces more than $93 million Australian ($67 million) in outstanding liability to rectify past and future claims, The Sydney Morning Herald reported. Icare underpaid approximately AUD39 million to the affected workers due to decades-old payment errors. Of the affected workers, over 75% have already passed away.
