Toyota faces $1.5 billion class-action bill over defective car parts

A recent ruling by the Federal Court of Australia could require Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor Corp. to pay a total of $2 billion Australian ($1.5 billion) in compensation to thousands of Australian customers who were sold cars with faulty engine filters, Stuff.co.nz reported. It was found that more than 264,000 Australian customers suffered losses due to the defective diesel particulate filter systems in their Toyota cars bought between October 2015 and April 2020. The defective parts reduced fuel efficiency and attracted excessive inspections and repairs.
