Mobile apps top comp tech trends survey

For the first time in three years telemedicine is not the technology expected to have the largest effect on the workers compensation industry in the next decade, being surpassed by mobile apps, according to a survey by Enlyte Group.
San Diego-based Enlyte, created through the merger of comp-related companies Mitchell, Coventry and Genex, surveyed 115 comp industry professionals about technology trends.
The survey ranked the top technology initiatives of 2021, with telemedicine at No. 1, followed by electronic payments/billing, mobile apps for injured worker communication, and improved user experience and system integration following.
Of the technologies that will have the greatest impact on comp in the next 10 years, telemedicine and artificial intelligence ranked second and third, respectively, behind mobile apps.
Overall, 28% — the highest amount — of survey respondents said communication with injured workers is the step in the claim cycle that will benefit the most from applying new technologies.
