BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Dozens of private investigators, security guard and electronic security companies nationwide found themselves wearing the other shoe as the victims of an elaborate embezzlement scheme by their insurance agent.

Vicki Boser founded InsuranceTek Inc. in 2003, specializing in assisting small businesses that work in high-risk fields in securing insurance policies to cover their business operations.

As owner of InsuranceTek, Ms. Boser would find companies willing to insure the high-risk companies, and if necessary, find a company to finance the premium payments. She was required to collect premium payments from clients and deliver them to insurance companies, but prosecutors said in pocketing some of the payments, she created false insurance certificates and led her clients to believe they were insured.

Ms. Boser was sentenced to two years in prison on Tuesday after pleading guilty to wire fraud in the theft of premium payments from clients. She was ordered to pay $273,137 in restitution to eight companies or insurance brokers she defrauded.

In a press release, federal prosecutors said Ms. Boser spent the stolen funds on gambling at area casinos – behavior U.S. District Judge James L. Robart called “classic in terms of embezzling from clients.”
