VW to pay 60,000 customers over emissions-cheating software

Germany-based Volkswagen AG has lost a lawsuit against a single car owner that will pave the way for it paying out in excess of 1 billion euros ($1.1 billion) to thousands of customers, The Guardian reported. VW was found to have installed software that artificially lowered emissions of nitrogen oxides when the vehicles were being tested. As per the court's ruling, the carmaker must take back the plaintiff's manipulated car and pay him €28,257.74 ($30,783.5), and legal experts said the case will lead to VW paying damages to more than 60,000 car owners.
