Outbreak-induced cat bond sell-off could hurt new issuances

Catastrophe bond trading in the secondary market has reached record levels on the back of the coronavirus outbreak-related sell-off, and could hurt new cat bond issuances, Artemis reports. So far, cat bond selling activity has been matched by sufficient demand from specialist insurance-linked securities funds. Estimates suggest that as much as $500 million of cat bonds have been sold off in the last ten days.
