BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Silent night, perilous night; not really, says insurer

deer damage

Those wanting Santa to visit their home this Christmas may hope he doesn’t appear inside with any of his reindeer.

That’s because homeowners insurance — at least in the case of a woman in Ohio whose home was trashed by a wild deer — might not cover this as a “peril,” according to an article posted Tuesday on the news site WCPO.com.

As Susan Mauricio relayed to the news station, she was looking out the back window of her Delhi Township, Ohio, home when "I saw a deer in the backyard." She went to record the sighting when suddenly the deer charged her window and burst inside.

"I ran for my life. I ran for the closest door," Ms. Mauricio said, offering her phone video as proof. Police came to coax the deer out and the homeowner called her insurer Allstate Corp. to report the damage: a hole in the ceiling, a torn-up living room couch, carpeting, draperies and the interior of two bedrooms.

"They told me it was not one of the 16 perils they cover," she said. "If it had been a car that came through my window, they told me that would have been covered. But not a deer."

Allstate covered some of the damage — but not all — and is now reevaluating her claim, according to the article.
