Vanuatu to form coalition to sue fuel firms for climate-related damage

Ralph Regenvanu, Vanuatu's foreign minister, said that the country plans to form a coalition with other vulnerable nations to sue fossil fuel companies for climate change-related damage, Reuters reported. Mr. Regenvanu said that frequent storms and a rise in sea levels have degraded the island nation's infrastructure. Disaster insurance payouts are inadequate to cover the losses, he added. A report by U.K.-based Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit found that climate change has increased the frequency and severity of fires, floods, storms, droughts and other catastrophes across the world.
