Cyclone Gita causes $155 million of damage in Tonga: Official

Balwyn Fa'otusia, chief executive of Tonga's Ministry of Finance and National Planning, said that cyclone Gita caused 356 million Tongan pa'anga ($155 million) worth of damage on the Tongatapu and 'Eua islands, Matangitonga reported. Kelela Tonga, chief executive for the Ministry of Infrastructure, said that the cyclone damaged more than 6,500 properties and destroyed nearly 500 houses. The cyclone struck the islands on Feb. 12.
