XL Catlin sets up underwriting hub in San Francisco

XL Group Ltd., which does business as XL Catlin, said Tuesday that its North America construction insurance business has set up an underwriting hub in San Francisco by adding Charles Marmolejo as executive underwriter and relocating senior underwriter Dan McCarthy from XL Catlin’s Chicago office.
Mr. Marmolejo came to XL Catlin directly from Marsh L.L.C. and has worked across a range of insurance industry sectors, including construction, transportation and real estate development-management, XL Group said in a statement.
As an executive underwriter for primary casualty, he will help XL Catlin’s construction clients address their general liability, workers compensation and commercial auto risks.
Senior underwriter Raffi Astourian handled primary casualty business previously, an XL Group spokeswoman said, but moved over to the subcontractor default insurance group.
Mr. McCarthy joined XL Catlin’s North America Construction team in September 2014 in Chicago. In his new role and location in San Francisco, he will assist brokers in helping address customers’ excess liability risks throughout the West.
