$1 billion-plus tab to improve safety in garment industry: Report

A report by U.S.-based NYU Stern Center for Business and Human Rights found that the cost to remediate working conditions in Bangladesh's ready-made garment factories will surpass $1 billion, Just-style.com reported. “We are calling for a model of shared responsibility, led by the government of Bangladesh, that will generate the needed funds to fix these dangerous factories,” said Michael Posner, director of the center. The collapse of the Rana Plaza factory complex in Bangladesh in April 2013 killed 1,134 people and focused attention on working conditions in the global garment industry.
