Tokio Marine HCC said Monday that longtime insurance industry executive Susan Rivera has joined the Houston-based specialty insurer as executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Ms. Rivera, whose appointment became effective April 1, will report to CEO Christopher J.B. Williams. She is taking over the COO duties from Tokio Marine HCC President William Burke.

Ms. Rivera was a founding shareholder of V3 Insurance Partners L.L.C., a Newtown, Pennsylvania-based specialty program administrator, and president and CEO from 2009 to earlier this year.

From 2014 to 2015, she was an independent member of Tokio Marine HCC’s board and served on the audit, compensation and enterprise risk oversight committees.

From 2007 to 2009, Ms. Rivera was president of QBE Specialty and chief actuary of QBE North America, a unit of Sydney-based QBE Insurance Group Ltd.

Ms. Rivera resigned from Ace Ltd., where she was president of Ace INA Holdings Inc., in 2005 and was named president of Praetorian Financial Group, the U.S. specialty unit of Hannover Re S.E., in 2006. She joined Ace Ltd. In 2002 after spending 15 years at American International Group Inc.
