N.Y. suspends doctor for alleged money laundering

The New York State Workers Compensation Board said Wednesday it has suspended a doctor’s authorization to treat injured workers, effective March 19.
Mount Kisco, New York-based Dr. Todd Sloan Koppel was indicted by a New Jersey Grand Jury and charged with first-degree conspiracy and money laundering for allegedly submitting more than $4.4 million in fraudulent bills for service to insurance companies, according to the New York State Workers Compensation Board.
“Dr. Koppel may be guilty of misconduct, and that such misconduct would detrimentally affect the quality of care provided to injured workers,” the board said in the statement.
