Ghana's reinsurance sector remains untapped: Official

Justice Yaw Ofori, commissioner of Ghana's insurance regulator, said that the local reinsurance sector largely remains untapped with room for growth in oil and gas, marine, aviation and specialist liability risk, Ghana News Agency reported. Mr. Ofori said that premiums ceded by local insurers surpassed 419 million Ghanaian cedi ($95 million) in 2017 and GHS 422 million in 2016. The National Insurance Commission issued reinsurance guidelines in 2017 to attract more reinsurers, utilize local capacity and minimize premium flight to foreign reinsurers.
