BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Joyrider takes a detour to workers comp fraud

The wife of the owner of a Nanuet, New York, window tinting business claimed she crashed a client's Mercedes Benz while working on the car, but investigators found she had taken the luxury vehicle out for a joyride, resulting in $45,000 in fraudulent workers compensation medical bills.

Samuel Pena, owner of Sam's Professional Window Tinting, and his employee-wife Tammy Pena are facing felony charges of defrauding the New York state workers compensation system by falsely reporting a car accident while on the job, the Journal News Media Group reported Friday.

Investigators said Mr. Pena, 44, was roped into the scam by filing false insurance documents seeking compensation, the news outlet reported.

The couple collected more than $45,000 for medical bills and wage indemnity benefits for Ms. Pena’s alleged claim, authorities said.
