Suit: Marriott valet upgraded driver with keys to $300,000 carReprints
A Florida lawyer is suing Marriott International and a valet parking service after he says a valet let another man drive off with his $300,000 car without showing a valet ticket, Raycom News Network reported Friday.
Ferrari driver Skip Fowler said he spent $10,000 in repairs after his luxury car was stolen and driven “incorrectly.” He claims this diminished the value of the $300,000 car.
In July, police arrested two joyriders after they were pulled over in Mr. Fowler’s Ferrari because the taillights weren’t working. The police officer noted the alleged car thief had “difficulty” driving the car, and the officer subsequently found cocaine in the center console, the Tampa Bay Times reported at the time. The driver admitted he didn’t know whose car it was, insisted he did not steal it because the keys were given to him by a valet at the Marriot-owned Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club, and that he was trying to impress his female companion in the passenger seat, media outlets reported.
Mr. Fowler’s lawsuit is accusing the hotel chain and the valet service of negligence and gross negligence, according to media reports.
