Natural catastrophes damage nearly 90% highways, roads in Mexican state

Javier Lazcano Vargas, representative of Oaxaca State at Mexico's Secretariat of Communications and Transportation, said that heavy rains and earthquakes damaged nearly 90% of highways and roads, and destroyed three bridges in the state, Mexico News Daily reported. Mr. Vargas said that the federal government has allocated 2.7 billion Mexican pesos ($142 million) for repairs and new construction of highways in the state. The government plans to obtain MXN 900 million from the country's federal natural disaster fund for the reconstruction in six of the eight regions of the state.
