Cincinnati Insurance offers distracted driving appPosted On: Sep. 12, 2017 8:27 AM CST
The Cincinnati Insurance Cos. and mobile software company LifeSaver said Tuesday that the LifeSaver app to combat cellphone-related distracted driving is available to the insurer’s commercial policyholders.
Policyholders can enforce their cellphone driving policies by using San Francisco-based LifeSaver’s app to measure and reduce distracted driving by their employees, Fairfield, Ohio-based Cincinnati Insurance said in a statement.
The LifeSaver app runs in the background on a driver’s smartphone. Using the phone’s location services and other technologies, LifeSaver discourages phone use while driving, according to the statement. If the driver tries to unlock the phone while driving, LifeSaver said on its website, the app presents a visual block or reminder to avoid using the phone, it logs driver attempts to access the phone while driving, and it scores drivers based on their level of distracted driving behavior.
“Through this program, we can provide a simple, cost-effective way for our commercial customers to address distracted driving, potentially reducing auto claims and, most importantly, saving lives. LifeSaver’s software-only approach is an innovative way to support our policyholders’ efforts to reduce risk and manage insurance costs,” Steve Spray, Cincinnati Insurance’s senior vice president of commercial insurance, said in the statement.
