Weekend injury leads to felony charges for Montana state worker

A Montana state employee who said he hurt his knee after jumping off the back of a work truck in 2016 actually injured himself over the weekend while riding his motorcycle, according to the Independent Record.
Boone Block, 34, pleaded guilty in June to felony charges and will pay a $3,000 fine, the newspaper reported on Monday.
A co-worker of the Department of Transportation employee in Livingston, Montana, told investigators that he didn’t see Mr. Block get hurt on the day of the alleged injury but recalls Mr. Block telling him that he was going to ride his motorcycle over the weekend.
Montana started paying Mr. Block’s medical bills and set aside more than $30,000 in reserves to pay for Block’s lost wages and treatment. An anonymous tip revealed the truth, according to the newspaper.
“At a time when state agencies are being asked to do more with less, it’s particularly troublesome that a public employee would engage in this type of fraudulent behavior,” Montana Attorney General Tim Fox told a reporter. “This case is a good example of how vigilant and honest Montana citizens can alert authorities to bogus claims and help conserve work comp monies for injured workers who truly need assistance with medical expenses and lost wages.”
