Germany in talks to recall up to 12 million diesel vehicles, could cost up to $3 billion

Germany's Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure is in talks with car manufacturers about recalling up to 12 million diesel vehicles to update their engine management software, which could cost between $1.7 billion and $2.8 billion, Reuters reported citing sources. The ministry said that vehicles with engines conforming to the euro-4, euro-5 and euro-6 standards need to be a part of the recall. The ministry is seeking to reduce emission of nitrogen oxide by about 25%, sources said.
