BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Mine safety rule implementation delayed until Oct. 2

The U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration has extended the effective date for its rule on workplace safety examinations for metal and nonmetal mines to Oct. 2.

The rule originally was set to become effective May 23. The extension will allow additional time for MSHA to provide training and compliance assistance for stakeholders, the agency said in a press release Monday.

MSHA said it is developing compliance assistance materials, which it will post on its website, and plans to hold informational meetings at various locations around the country to assist stakeholders with compliance. The delay also will allow the agency to train inspectors to ensure consistent enforcement, MSHA said.

The rule, which had raised concerns within the mining sector, addresses the timing of workplace safety examinations and strengthens notification requirements. The rule also requires a record of the examination to include locations examined, adverse conditions found and date of corrective actions.
