New York miffed by MetLife moving pick

State and city officials in New York are not too thrilled MetLife Inc. hired an out-of-state moving company to relocate to a new office in Manhattan, according to the New York Post.
MetLife, a $50 billion global enterprise that reportedly receives millions in state and federal tax breaks, hired New Jersey-based All Season Movers to handle its move to a new building — all over protests from New York’s Teamsters Local 814 which says those movers are not affiliated with an national labor organization as they are, the newspaper reported Wednesday.
The Post reported that state and city officials tried to sway MetLife into rethinking the decision to go with the out-of-state movers over labor-union concerns.
State Controller Thomas DiNapoli wrote to MetLife CEO Steven Kandarian in March to say he was “troubled” by its choice of All Season Movers, according to the newspaper.
“I believe encouraging fair treatment of workers, including workers of contractors and vendors, serves to enhance the standing of the MetLife brand,” Mr. DiNapoli wrote, according to the Post.
