A school campus monitor was convicted of workers compensation insurance fraud after he misrepresented his physical abilities and limitations associated with an injury he suffered in November 2015, the Stanislaus County, California, District Attorney’s Office announced in a statement.
John Heaton, an employee of the Stanislaus Union School District, filed a comp claim and received medical treatment and benefits stemming from the injury. He pleaded no contest Jan. 23 to a felony charge of insurance fraud and was sentenced to 30 days in jail along with three years of probation, the district attorney’s office said Friday.
Mr. Heaton also was ordered to pay restitution of more than $8,300 to reimburse workers comp and investigation costs.
Alaska Gov. Bill Walker introduced legislation Wednesday aimed at streamlining the state’s workers compensation program by improving claim dispute resolution, accelerating care for injured workers and deterring insurance fraud.
