BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

MIAMI — Former Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Michael Consedine has been named CEO of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, effective early 2017.

Mr. Consedine served as Pennsylvania insurance commissioner from 2011 to 2015 and served in various leadership positions within the NAIC, including as president-elect, vice president and secretary-treasurer. He also served on NAIC committees focused on international and domestic issues, including as chair of the international insurance relations committee, the reinsurance task force and the health care reform alternatives working group.

“Mike will bring valuable experience and energy into this role and will lead our Washington, D.C., office and have responsibility over state and federal government affairs and international activities,” NAIC President and Missouri Insurance Commissioner John Huff said when announcing the appointment Saturday at the NAIC fall meeting in Miami.

Mr. Consedine is currently senior vice president and global head of government and policy affairs for financial services company Aegon N.V. in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Leigh Ann Pusey, president and CEO of the American Insurance Association in Washington, D.C., congratulated him on his new role.

“He brings to the position a deep understanding of the state-based insurance regulatory system along with a record of thoughtful leadership on international insurance issues,” she said in a statement. “Throughout his tenure as Pennsylvania commissioner, he worked at ensuring that a proper balance was struck between regulating insurers and representing the best interests of policyholders. Commissioner Consedine’s professional experience in the private sector as well as in state government gives him a seasoned perspective. We look forward to working with him and collaborating with the NAIC in a way that seeks to address the public policy issues facing property/casualty insurers.”

“Consumers, regulators and the life insurance industry will benefit from his strong leadership throughout the world,” American Council of Life Insurers President and CEO Dirk Kempthorne said in a statement. “He has demonstrated this leadership as a regulator and as an industry executive. His deep involvement in a wide range of domestic and international issues affecting the U.S. insurance sector will serve him well in his new role at the NAIC. ACLI looks forward to working with him and the entire NAIC to promote regulations that protect consumers while also helping them obtain the financial and retirement security they want and need.”
