Formosa Plastics Group fined $500 million over toxic dishcarge in Vietnam

Taiwanese conglomerate Formosa Plastics Group has been fined $500 million for discharging toxic waste from its steel plant in Vietnam, reported International Business Times citing news agencies.

This is the highest-ever fine imposed by the Vietnamese government on a company. Vietnam's Government Office Head Mai Tien Dung said that Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corp. admitted responsibility for the disaster that killed massive amounts of fish in four coastal provinces of Vietnam in April.
