Premiums in Indian insurance sector grows by 7.9% in 2015: Swiss Re

Swiss Re Ltd. has said in a study that total insurance premiums in the Indian insurance sector grew by 7.9% in 2015, reported Hindustan Times citing Indo-Asian News Service.

The nonlife insurance sector enjoyed 8.1% growth in premium during the year, up from 2.2% in 2014. The reinsurer said that insurance penetration in the country remained low at 3.4% in 2015 compared to the global average of 6.2%. Strong economic growth and new initiatives are expected to increase insurance penetration, Swiss Re said.
