The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Monday said a credit card breach may have affected certain of its restaurant and retail outlets between Oct. 27, 2015, and March 21, 2016.
The hotel said in a statement that after receiving reports of fraudulent activity associated with payment cards, the resort began an investigation, and on May 13 of this year identified signs of unauthorized access to its payment card system.
The resort said further investigation revealed the presence of “card scraping malware” designed to target payment card data as it was routed through its payment card system.
In some instances, the program identified payment card data that included cardholder name, card number, expiration date and internal verification code, while in others the program only found payment card data that did not include the cardholder's name. No other customer data was involved, it said.
The statement recommends its customers remain vigilant for any unauthorized activity. It said law enforcement officials have been notified and are supporting their investigation.
Last year, the resort's chief operating officer said hackers had obtained credit and debit card information from customers over a seven-month period that ended April 2, 2015.
