Former Jardine Lloyd Thompson executive dies

Rodney Leach, Baron Leach of Fairford, former deputy chairman and nonexecutive director of Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group P.L.C., has died at the age of 82, the broker said Tuesday.

Lord Leach was chairman of Jardine Insurance Brokers between 1988 and 1997. He was a campaigner for reform of the European Union and was chairman of Open Europe, JLT said in a statement. He died Sunday.

He also was chairman of No2AV, a campaign opposing proposed changes to the British electoral system away from the first-past-the-post system.

He was awarded a life peerage in 2006.
