BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Women to Watch: Where are they now …

It's been 10 years since Business Insurance started the Women to Watch program. To celebrate that anniversary, during 2016 we are running a series of occasional articles catching up with some of our honorees.

The one lesson that stands out for LoriAnn Lowery-Biggers is knowing how to prioritize.

“I make sure I identify the balls I have in the air, which ones are rubber and which ones are crystal, (and) which ones not to let fall,” said Ms. Lowery-Biggers, who says work-life balance is more important than ever, as are her volunteer commitments in helping improve the lives of women and children globally.

Yet professionally, after a 2012 promotion from president of field operations to chief marketing officer at Stamford, Conn.-based The Navigators Group Inc., Ms. Lowery-Biggers said she remains focused on delivering out-of-box solutions for clients and her firm.

In 2008 she was named one of Business Insurance's Women to Watch.

“In this role I get to be creative all the time,” she said, adding that she has no regrets in leaving a high-profile position as president of the North American operations with Lloyd's America Inc. in 2009, a move she made for family reasons. Not only that, she's a native Texan whose roots go back six generations.

“It's been an amazing and great transition for me,” she said. “It's been seven years and I am quite entrenched. (Navigators Group has) an amazing culture; they understand and appreciate underwriting excellence. There is a focus on leadership instead of management and you get to be entrepreneurial.”

Today she is responsible for the management of the distribution strategy, field offices management and property and liability, regional structure, marketing, communications, branding and broker relations for Navigators globally.

Ms. Lowery-Biggers also is on the board Copper Point Mutual Insurance Co. Inc., a workers compensation insurance company in Phoenix. Besides that, she's a member of 10 other professional and charitable boards, including Prevent Child Abuse America, St. John's University and Propel Women, an organization she helped form to inspire women in their careers.

“There are three key things in my life: lead with excellence, live with integrity and give back with passion,” she said. “Over the past few years, I have been able to expand myself and my capabilities, and these years have been really great for me in helping people create their career paths.”

Another passion project is her work overseas. Over the past few years, she's traveled to Lebanon, South Africa, Israel, Iraq, Greece, Spain, Malaysia, Portugal, Italy, Guatemala and Mexico on trips that aim to protect the civil liberties of abused and exploited women and children, as well as teach ethical business practices to entrepreneurs in those countries. She's also done extensive work with the A21 Campaign, which works to abolish human trafficking globally.

“I try not to be all things to all people, but I keep busy,” she said.
