Drought, saline water intrusion cost Vietnam $286 million

The General Statistics Office of Vietnam has said that drought and saline water intrusion have cost the nation almost 6.4 trillion Vietnamese dong ($286 million) in the first four months of 2016, reported Xinhua.

About 15 Vietnamese provinces and cities had declared a state of emergency due to drought and saline intrusion as of April 24. A recent joint rapid assessment estimated in March that around 2 million people were without access to water and 1.1 million needed food aid in the nation's 18 worst-hit provinces.
