Broker group acquires benefits, health care services administrator

AmWINS Group Inc. said on Wednesday that is has acquired Group Benefit Services Inc. and GBS Payroll Plus Inc., known collectively as Group Benefit Services.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded by Bill and Kathy Simmons, Hunt Valley, Maryland-based Group Benefit Services is a third-party administrator and general agent that provides products and services to support the distribution, delivery and administration of employee benefits and health care services. Group Benefit Services provides employee benefit solutions to fully-insured and self-insured groups, AmWINS Group said in the statement.

“We are excited to partner with Group Benefit Services,” M. Steven DeCarlo, CEO of Charlotte, North Carolina-based AmWINS said in the statement. “Bill, Kathy and the entire GBS team have built a reputation as a trusted benefits advisor and, as part of our Group Benefits division, will enable us to further diversify our offerings to support brokers with mid-market employer clients.”
