London may put eagle eye on nefarious drones
Risk managers and insurers are working hard to understand the risk associated with drones.
And police in London are contemplating an unusual tactic to attack drones that pose a risk to the city eagles.
According to the Daily Mirror, Metropolitan Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe spotted a video online of a successful trial in the Netherlands where eagles pounced on a small drone.
The commissioner has now asked staff to investigate the possibility of using eagles to help rid London's streets of drones being used for criminal purposes, such as smuggling drugs into jails.
Police in London also are fearful that drones could be used by terrorists, either to drop explosives or to reconnoiter potential targets, the Mirror reported.
According to the paper, a senior Metropolitan police officer confirmed that the force was considering using birds of prey to intercept drone threats.
