Toyota to halt production following explosion at steel factory

Japan's Toyota Motor Corp. said that it is halting production at 16 vehicle assembly lines in Japan after an explosion at a steel plant caused a parts shortage, reported The Telegraph.

Toyota said it would halt work for six days starting Feb. 8. The explosion hit Aichi Steel Corp.'s plant in Nagoya last month. The plant supplies specialty steels used for engine, chassis and transmission parts to Toyota. The production halt is likely to cut Toyota's annual output by about 70,000 vehicles.
