The government of the Nigerian state of Kano has culled more than 120,000 birds following the outbreak of bird flu in the state, The Cable reports.

"Twenty-nine farms were depopulated, while 11 samples have been sent to the National Veterinary Research Institute for confirmation," said Shehu Bawa, director of veterinary services in Kano State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
