The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers has named John P. Fielding to be its in-house general counsel.
Mr. Fielding is of counsel at law firm Steptoe & Johnson L.L.P in Washington and a member of its government affairs and policy group. He also is vice president of the board of the National Insurance Producer Registry.
Mr. Fielding's insurance industry experience includes working on legislation for the federal terrorism insurance backstop, implementing the licensure mechanism of the National Association of Registered Agents and Brokers, and surplus lines regulatory reform, the council said in a statement.
“His extensive expertise on insurance and financial services legislative and regulatory matters… will allow us to provide comprehensive and timely analysis to our members,” Council President and CEO Ken Crerar said in a statement.
Scott Sinder and Steptoe & Johnson will continue as legal counsel for the agents and brokers group and Mr. Sinder has been named chief legal officer, the council said in the statement.
Bill Henry, chairman and CEO of Dallas-based MHBT Inc., a Marsh & McLennan Agency L.L.C. company, has been elected as the 2016 chairman of the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers, the council announced Wednesday.
