BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

2015 40 Under 40 Broker Awards: Polly Thomas

Benefits consultant and national director of clinical consulting services

CBIZ Benefits & Insurance Services Inc.

Age: 38

Polly Thomas doesn't hesitate when asked what she enjoys most about her job: helping clients set up onsite medical clinics and wellness programs.

“It is very rewarding and also fun, because you get to help employers potentially to save money while helping employees to improve their health,” said Ms. Thomas, benefits consultant and national director of clinical consulting services at CBIZ Benefits and Insurance Services Inc. in Kansas City, Missouri.

“The real joy comes from improving health outcomes. To the employer, controlling health care expenses is one side of the equation, but another and very important side of the equation is having happy, healthy employees,” Ms. Thomas said.

Clients value Ms. Thomas' creativity.

“With her solid experience in the health benefits arena, she can bring in new ideas and find solutions to complex problems,” said Tracy Hanavan, director of global benefits at Vectrus Inc., a Colorado Springs, Colorado-based provider of logistics, supply chain management and information technology and services who has worked with Ms. Thomas on setting up a wellness program.

“She has a fantastic ability to think and plan ahead. She created something that could be very successful for clients and their employees. She took knowledge that she has and started an entire practice for the company in that area,” said CBIZ Benefits & Insurance Services President Carolyn Watley, referring to Ms. Thomas' work in the onsite clinic arena.

Her accomplishments are many. She worked with a client in setting up a wellness program that generated more than $1.4 million in savings in the first year alone. She assisted another to set up an onsite clinic that helped to slash workers compensation claims.

And Ms. Thomas hopes to help many more clients achieve those kinds of savings in the future.

“You can have an impact on so many levels. Being in this field will bring me joy for a very long time,” she said.
