Geoffrey Mawuli Biekro, Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy, has said that maritime piracy and armed robbery costs West Africa $2 billion each year, reported GhanaWeb.

These piracy and robbery incidents mainly happened along the Gulf of Guinea and the Indian Ocean, said Mr. Biekro. Such activities by maritime pirates put the prospects of the oil and gas industry at risk, said Mr. Biekro, adding that efforts are needed to ensure maritime security.
