BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

New Aetna exec will oversee Humana integration

Aetna Inc. on Wednesday announced two appointments to its senior leadership team, including one that will direct the company's planned integration with rival health insurer Humana Inc.

Rick Jelinek has joined Aetna as an executive vice president with primary responsibility for combining the company's operations with Humana's, following regulatory and shareholder approval of the companies' proposed $37 billion merger. Mr. Jelinek will also be responsible for Aetna's enterprise strategy.

Prior to joining Aetna, Mr. Jelinek served as CEO of OptumHealth, one of several senior leadership positions held during a 19-year tenure working under the umbrella of UnitedHealth Group Inc., the largest publicly traded health insurer in the U.S. His divisional chief executive positions while at UnitedHealth included oversight of the company's Medicare Advantage business, its Medicaid and children's health insurance businesses, and the company's emerging businesses group.

Mr. Jelinek's most recent position prior to joining Aetna was operating partner at Advent International? Corp., a Boston-based private equity firm with investments totaling $28 billion across 40 countries, Aetna said Wednesday in a statement.

Aetna also announced that it has appointed Gary Loveman as president of its newly expanded health services organization, Healthagen, replacing outgoing senior executive vice president Joseph Zubretsky, who is leaving Aetna. In his new position at the helm of Healthagen, Mr. Loveman will oversee Aetna's population health management, clinical care management and consumer insights divisions.

Both Mr. Jelinek and Mr. Loveman will report directly to Mark Bertolini, Aetna's chairman and CEO. Mr. Jelinek will be based in New York, and Mr. Loveman will be based at Aetna's headquarters in Hartford, Connecticut.

“I am delighted to welcome Gary and Rick to Aetna at an exciting, important time for our company,” Mr. Bertolini said in the statement. “Their leadership and expertise will help us to take full advantage of the many opportunities before us as we pursue our mission of building a healthier world.”
