State of emergency declared after floods

Nicolas Maduro, president of Venezuela, has declared a state of emergency in the country's Apure state following devastating floods that has hit 40,000 people, reported GlobalPost citing Xinhua.

Tachira and Barinas states have also been affected. Mr. Maduro said that Apure's Guasdualito city has been the hardest hit. Officials have said that the Sarare and Arauca rivers have overflowed and caused damage to several businesses, banks, schools and houses. Mr. Maduro has approved an immediate fund of more than $47 million for relief and recovery of the region.
