Magnitude 6.9 quake strikes off Solomon Islands

Geoscience Australia said that a magnitude 6.9 earthquake has hit off the coast of the Solomon Islands, Xinhua reported.

No tsunami warning has been issued, added the agency.

"There are no reports of damage coming from this event," said a Geoscience Australia spokesman.

The United States Geological Survey said that the quake was centered near the Santa Cruz Island chain, reports Xinhua.
