Mexico-based AXA Seguros S.A. de C.V. has said in a study that only 10% of the population in the country's Quintana Roo state has insurance against natural disasters, Sipse.com reported.
This means that the rest of the state's population, firms and authorities are exposed to economic losses from such disasters, said AXA.
The absence of a risk mapping tool in the state has led to the damage costs from hydrometeorological events topping the budget of the country's natural disasters fund, Hugo Martinez, an AXA spokesman said.
