Insurance penetration in Uganda lags

Insurance penetration in Uganda is low compared with its East African Community peers, East African Business Week reported.

Uganda's insurance penetration is at 0.8%, while Tanzania and Kenya have penetration of 2.3% and 3.8%, respectively.

This is, in part, because of public distruct of insurers, said Mariam Nalunkuuma, communications officer at the country's insurance regulator.
