Gross insurance premiums in Bahrain up 9%-10% in 2014

Abdul Rahman Al Baker, executive director for financial institutions supervision at the Central Bank of Bahrain, has said that Bahrain insurance sector's gross premiums increased 9% to 10% in 2014, reported Asia Insurance Review citing Al Khaleej newspaper.

Gross premiums for the period totaled 280 million Bahraini dinars ($742.6 million), said Mr. Al Baker. Around 22% of gross premiums came from takaful. The Islamic insurance sector reported growth of 15% to 20% for the period.
