Shell, Eni report 553 oil spills in Nigeria in 2014: Amnesty International

Amnesty International has said that Royal Dutch Shell P.L.C. and Eni S.p.A. operating in Nigeria have reported combined 553 oil spills in 2014, reported Business Standard citing Agence France-Presse.

Figures released by the firms showed that Shell and Eni reported 204 and 349 spills respectively in 2014, said Amnesty. These figures of the two oil majors are "seriously alarming," said Audrey Gaughran, Amnesty's director of global issues. "ENI has clearly lost control over its operations in the Niger Delta," said Ms. Gaughran.
